A champion for Deaf communication, Sebastian Vorster is a strong advocate for the use of Auslan and is one of very few Speech Pathologists in Western Australia who has Auslan proficiency. Currently working towards becoming a fluent signer, Sebastian is able to communicate at an intermediate level and can deliver services in both Auslan and English.
Sebastian is also one of the only Speech Pathologists in Western Australia able to use Cued Speech. This is not a language but a visual communication system to help with learning and speaking in English. It involves hand signs close to the mouth to help differentiate sounds on the lips. Cued Speech is a Deaf friendly way to learn to lip read, speak English and helps improve your English reading and writing skills and doesn't require any level of hearing.
